Thomaston-Upson School System's commitment to the safety of our schools, our students and staff will always be a top priority. The school district has partnered with the Upson County Sheriff's Office, the Thomaston Police Department, local fire and medical first responders, and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security (GEMA/HS) to create  an emergency plan for our district. Faculty and staff are trained to implement this plan. Faculty, staff, and students participate in drills outlined in this plan. In addition, our district employs a School Resource Officer at each of our schools. These officers work with school and district staff to identify safety and security issues at each facility, find appropriate resolutions to these issues, and ensure that our staff and students work and learn in a safe environment.

The Thomaston-Upson County Schools Safety Plan includes, but is not limited to, protocol for the following emergency situations: Severe Weather, Hazardous Materials, Utility Outages, Pandemic or Epidemic, and Threats or Violence. Responses to emergency situations may include: Lockdown, Evacuation, Family Reunification, School Cancellation, Early Dismissal, Delayed Dismissal, and Delayed Start.
