Welcome! The Office of School and Community Relations maintains productive relationships and effective communication between employees, students, parents, and the local community. This office is responsible for a variety of resources, programs, and activities designed to inform and engage parents, families, and the community in our local public school system.

We are very proud of the fact that the Thomaston-Upson School System is a vital part of our local community, and we are appreciative of this community’s long-standing support for our schools, students, faculty, and staff. The Thomaston-Upson School System values and encourages parent, family, and community involvement in our schools.

We hope you will use the information on these web pages to GET ENGAGED in public education within Thomaston & Upson County.

Community Information

Thomaston, named one of the Best 100 Small Towns in America, was one the first thirteen cities in Georgia to be selected a Main Street City in 1986. Our city currently holds the designation of “Classic Mainstreet Community” with the Georgia Mainstreet Program. Upson County is a "Camera Ready" Community, as designated by the Office of the Governor and the GA Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office, a division of GA Department of Economic Development. In 2013 "The Walking Dead"  filmed at Sprewell Bluff Park on the Flint River and “The Hunger Games, MockingJay Part 1” filmed in one of our community's old textile mills, Martha Mills, located on Goodrich Avenue. In 2015, "The Founder" filmed at a local drive-in restaurant, Piggy Park. We are always thrilled to work with the GA Film Industry. In addition, Upson County has been designated by the Ga. Department of Economic Development's Entrepreneur & Small Business Office as one of twelve "Entrepreneur Friendly" communities in Georgia and is a "Work Ready" community.

We have a lovely downtown square with thriving hometown businesses. The restored art-deco Ritz Theater features the newest Hollywood releases in a one-of-a-kind setting. Sprewell Bluff State Park and the Flint River offer opportunities for outdoor fun. Our historic buildings and structures, such as the 1-room Schoolhouse, the African American Museum, the Pettigrew-White-Stamps House, and the Auchumpkee Creek Covered Bridge, cater to the history buffs. The Upson County Airport even offers sky diving courses through Sky Dive Atlanta.

The Thomaston-Upson Arts Council (TUAC) provides our community with a selection of cultural events throughout the year. Their annual program schedule features dramas, musicals, visual arts exhibits, children’s arts, festivals, and concerts.

Other community-wide events, such as Thomaston's Mule Days festival, concerts on our historic Courthouse Square, 4th of July Freedom Fest at the Greatest Generation Park, Emmancipation Proclamation Celebration, the Christmas Lights Parade create that sense of community that accompanies small-town living.

Come visit Thomaston! You’ll want to call it home!
